VOTE for JOE!
We're talking DOA!
The Vancouver group who helped spearhead the spread of punk rock counterculture
around the world.
They're still gleefully slashing away against all manner of philosophical enemy.
They've travelled the globe almost continuously since they formed in 1978 and released
their first snarling piece of vinyl, the DISCO SUCKS EP on their own
"SUDDEN DEATH" label.
That slab of plastic opened the door to international prominence, riots,
ripoff record companies and three generations of fans.
In 1981 DOA made the term "hardcore" their own and pushed it into the common vernacular with their legendary album HARDCORE '81 and subsequent tours. Consequently, DOA has been cited as a major influence by shitloads of bands. They followed that up with their ground-breaking EP WAR ON 45 in 1982.
DOA's
political stand has gotten them involved in riots and had leader
Joey "Shithead" Keithley
thrown in jail.
It's also provided some of the band's proudest moments, playing benefit concerts for over
100 different worthy causes and releasing 5 benefit singles for controversial causes.
Hence the band's blatant slogan...
VOTE for JOE!
Shithead
has launched his own record label,
SUDDEN DEATH RECORDS.
Joey states,
"This way I can put out whatever the fuck I want.
The DIY (do it yerfuckinself) ethic is one of punkrock's biggest impacts on society.
I'm just furthering this anarchic tradition."
